Eddie Petley

Member Feature

Eddie Petley is a longstanding member of the our Guild. Recently he has been in communication with the editor of the English magazine “Woodturning”. Reading the article about turning in a cold workshop prompted him to note, that in contrast to the UK he, like many of us here in the Waikato, have been turning in temperatures from 30C to 35C.

He goes on to say that Guild members make wig stands for patients undergoing chemotherapy. We are given two macrocarpa or redwood sleepers every two months by a large timber merchant. A Guild member breaks down the timber and stores it for drying so that we have a continuous supply from which to make stands. We have been turning stands for more than eleven years now, probably more than 3000 in total.
