Maori Carving – Michael Matchitt

Waikato Guild of Woodcraft is pleased to offer the opportunity to learn from Maori Carver
Michael Matchitt, to give some tuition on Maori carving at the WQW club rooms.
Thursday nights commencing at 6.30pm

The sessions will cover:

  1. Carving Kowhaiwhai and maintaining chisels relevant to Kowhaiwhai
  2. Carving Surface pre-European designs and maintaining chisels relevant to designs
  3. Carving post-European designs and maintaining chisels relevant to designs
  4. Carving basic form i.e. Manaia and maintaining chisels relevant to form

This will be useful with the:

  • Design for members work
  • Carving
  • Embellishment of turned items
  • Choosing & maintaining chisels

Material requirements for the first session are drawing materials.

Cost is $15 per session.
